Avalanche Game 61 at Dallas Stars: They Finally Meet Again — Lines, Notes & How To Watch

The Colorado Avalanche (41-10-9) close out a three-game road trip against the second-best team in the NHL, the surging Dallas Stars (38-14-9). Puck drop is scheduled for 6:08 p.m. MT.

Key Stories to Watch

  • The first game after the trade deadline is always fascinating, as it’s often the first time you see new teammates play together. Nic Roy will make his Avalanche debut, likely centering the third line. Last game, the third-line wingers were Parker Kelly and Victor Olofsson. Nick Blankenburg is a healthy scratch.
  • Both Dallas trade deadline acquisitions, Tyler Myers and Michael Bunting, will be healthy scratched. Head coach Glen Gulutzan said he prefers to give them more time to get acclimated to the system. The Stars have won 10 straight games for the first time in franchise history.
  • This is Colorado’s first time playing in Dallas since losing Game 7 in the first round last year. The Stars came to Denver in October and defeated Colorado 5-4 in a shootout. That was the only meeting between the two clubs to date. They’ll meet three times in the next 29 days.
  • Mikko Rantanen will not play for the Stars, as he continues to rehab an upper-body injury sustained against Team Canada in the semi-finals of the Olympics.
  • As expected, both teams will go with their usual starting goalies. Jake Oettinger stars for Dallas against Colorado’s Mackenzie Blackwood.

#Avs coach Jared Bednar said Nic Roy will play tonight. Looks like Joel Kiviranta could be back in the lineup as well. Nick Blankenburg’s Avs debut will have to wait.

Artturi Lehkonen still considered week-to-week, but Bednar said he expects him to be back before the playoffs.
