Tourney tracker: State basketball updates from Yakima, Tacoma and Spokane

Six Valley teams will vie for spots in state championship games Friday, while four more will play to extend their season and secure a state trophy. 

We’ll have updates from each game, as well as all state scores from Tacoma, Yakima and Spokane as the day goes on.

The Class 4A tournament is in the Tacoma Dome, the 2A and 1A tournaments are in the Yakima Valley SunDome, and the 2B and 1B tournaments are held in Numerica Veterans Arena.

Boys basketball

Class 4A

GLACIER PEAK 64, WEST VALLEY 42: At Tacoma Dome, the Rams’ season came to an end with a loss to the Grizzlies in the consolation semifinals. Parker Mills was the lone West Valley (20-5) player in double-figures, finishing with 12 points.

GRANDVIEW 58, PULLMAN 36: At SunDome, Francisco Medina’s 22 points powered No. 7 Grandview to a loser-out win over No. 4 Pullman. Braden Santos and Darius Montelongo also scored in double figures to send Grandview (20-8) to a fourth-place game against No. 5 Tumwater Saturday morning.

ZILLAH 74, ROYAL 64: At SunDome, the No. 1 Leopards advanced with a semifinal victory over the No. 3 Knights. Zillah (26-0) will play either No. 2 Lynden Christian or No. 6 King’s in the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Something about going up against Royal at the Yakima Valley SunDome appears to bring out the best in Zillah’s Dekker Van De Graaf.

Girls basketball

Class 4A

DAVIS 57, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 38: At Tacoma Dome, the defending champion Pirates (23-2) return to the championship game after beating the No. 11 Lancers. Davis will play either No. 6 Lake Washington or No. 8 Sumner at 5 p.m. Saturday.

PROSSER 64, ELLENSBURG 42: At SunDome, the No. 3 Mustangs (24-3) raced by the No. 7 Bulldogs (21-5) and snapped a four-game semifinal losing streak while advancing to the final against No. 1 Lynden. 

Ellensburg, which beat Prosser twice on its way to four straight title games, will play No. 4 Clarkston for third place Saturday.

SELAH 50, ARCHBISHOP MURPHY 48: At SunDome, Elise Kingston’s layup with four seconds left to knock off the No. 5 Wildcats and guarantee the Vikings will win their first 2A trophy in program history. Kingston finished with 17 and Makenna Pepper added 10 to help offset 30 points from AM star Brook Blachly, who rallied her team back from an 11-point deficit. Selah (21-9) will play for fourth-place Saturday morning against No. 2 Deer Park, which beat the Vikings 56-45 at the SunDome Shootout in December.
