The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has announced that Wiarton Willie died.
According to the town, the beloved weather prognosticator died while sleeping.
The news comes as the festival just celebrated its 70th anniversary and was named one of the Top 100 in Ontario by Festivals and Events Ontario.
“As one of only a handful of groundhog meteorologists around the world, Willie proudly carried on the cherished tradition of predicting the arrival of spring each year during Groundhog Day celebrations in Wiarton,” read a statement.
