Sporting-Tondela date unclear, Porto demand answers from league

FC Porto has submitted a request for clarification to the League regarding the scheduling of the Sporting-Tondela match, a fixture that still has no set date, a situation that is causing perplexity at the blue and white club.
The Dragons believe that the fact the match has not yet been scheduled within the four weeks following the initially planned date, which was last weekend, goes against the regulations. This formal stance comes in the wake of Sporting’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, which has further complicated the scheduling of the match corresponding to the 26th round of the League.
FC Porto considers it serious that a match to be played during a decisive phase of the season still does not have a set date and demands an immediate clarification from Liga Portugal, stressing that the competition regulations are being disregarded, based on Article 42.
The blue and white club also sees the uncertainty surrounding the date of the Sporting-Tondela match as a distortion of sporting fairness, both in the title race, in which Sporting is involved, and in the relegation battle, in Tondela’s case. The club also argues that the 72-hour rest rule, used as justification for the postponement, cannot become an automatic protection mechanism, under penalty of compromising the integrity of the national championship.
FC Porto has already informed the League that it will take legal action if the solution found results in unequal treatment or an actual violation of the competition regulations by the entity itself.
