Barry Keoghan has seen your comments about his looks, and he’s not happy about them. In a recent interview, Keoghan said that he receives “a lot of abuse” stemming from his appearance and that it’s actually kept him from attending events.
While appearing on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on Friday, Keoghan said that he has an “incredible fan base,” but there’s still a “nasty side” of being famous that he’s had to deal with. “I removed myself from online, but I’m still a curious human being,” he said, adding that if he attends an event, he sometimes goes on social media to see how it was received.
“It’s not nice,” Keoghan said. “It’s a lot of abuse of how I look.” The actor said that comments about his appearance have made him “shy away” and “go inside” himself. “And I say this being absolutely pure and honest to you. It’s becoming a problem,” Keoghan shared. “I actually don’t go to places because of these things.”
It’s not just that Keoghan doesn’t want to pop up on a red carpet. It sounds like commentary has made it hard for him to do his job. “When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don’t even want to be onscreen anymore,” he said. Keoghan is currently filming a four-film Beatles biopic, in which he’s playing Ringo Starr (hence why he’s sporting a shaggy, swoopy haircut).
Keoghan said he’s also concerned about his 3-year-old son, Brando, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro. “My little boy has to read all of this stuff, you know, when he gets older,” he said. Hopefully, by the time baby Brando is of reading age, all the rude TikToks that were made about his father’s looks will be long gone, freeing him up to watch all four Beatles movies. Now that’s something to be proud of.
