Fans of Emmerdale were left stunned after Charity Dingle made a confession, with many convinced that a romantic reunion is on the cards.
ITV soap viewers will know that Charity (portrayed by Emma Atkins) is currently in the final stages of her pregnancy.
While the majority of the village think that she is expecting her granddaughter Sarah Sugden’s (Katie Hill) baby with Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), Charity is actually preparing to deliver her own child, fathered by Ross Barton (Michael Parr), following their drunken one-night stand last year.
Meanwhile, Charity’s ex, Cain (Jeff Hordley), is experiencing his own upheaval after receiving a diagnosis of aggressive, though localised, prostate cancer earlier this year. For the most part, Cain has been forced to cope with his diagnosis alone, as his spouse, Moira (Natalie J Robb), continues to be imprisoned for a crime she didn’t commit. Additionally, the village mainstay was also evicted from his residence at Butler’s Farm, after Moira reluctantly sold her farm shares to Kim Tate (Claire King), reports the Express.

With just one month remaining before Cain’s prostate operation, he has opted to disregard medical guidance and persist with heavy drinking. Charity visited Cain at the Wishing Well cottage this week, and swiftly recognised that he required considerably more support than he was admitting.
Wednesday’s (March 25) episode of Emmerdale, now available for streaming on ITVX, is entirely focused on Cain and Charity. Worried by Cain’s rapid drinking, Charity implored him to take care of his health but, in a fit of anger, Cain hurled the whisky bottle, resulting in the breaking of his father Zak’s (Steve Halliwell) tankard.
After being pressed by Charity, Cain finally confessed that he’s struggling to maintain Moira’s old life while she’s incarcerated. In an attempt to distract himself from his concerns, Cain started flirting with Charity, as they reminisced about their past relationship. “Back in the day, we were something weren’t we?” Cain remarked, before asserting to Charity that he was the best she ever had.
Charity swiftly retorted: “You wish! Yeah, you were good, but I’ve had better.” Upon further questioning by her former partner, Charity eventually shared fond recollections of her relationship with Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), which concluded six years ago.
“[It was] Vanessa, if you must know. She might have a wardrobe full of jumpers, but she definitely knows what she’s doing in the sack,” she clarified.

Despite Vanessa star Michelle’s claims that her character wouldn’t be reuniting with Charity, many Vanity fans are hopeful that Charity’s recent admission could hint at a potential reunion.
“Vanity 2026 is happening, TRUST,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), with another adding: “The way she didn’t even have to THINK about the fact Vanessa was the best she’s ever had, yeah I know that’s right.”
A third said: “When are #Emmerdale gonna revisit VANITY? They’ve revisited every other ex couple twice or three times over. I think it’s Vanessa and Charity’s time for a second chance. They loved each other so much,” with another similarly sharing: “EMMERDALE! STOP DOING THIS TO ME! VANITY ALL ABOARD!”
A fifth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: “My #Vanity heart. God dammit, how on earth are they still not together. No matter what comes out of Charity’s mouth, it’s always gonna be Vanessa at the end of the day. They are wasting their time. For real.”
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, while Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV as part of ITV’s new soap power hour scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale
