Ryan Coogler’s ‘The X Files’ Hulu Pilot Taps Himesh Patel To Star With Daneille Deadwyler

Ryan Coogler’s Hulu pilot for a new The X-Files series has found its co-lead.

Station Eleven star Himesh Patel, who will soon be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, has landed the co-lead and would star opposite the previously cast Danielle Deadwyler. It is a reunion for Patel and Deadwyler, who starred in HBO’s Station Eleven with each other.

Per the logline, “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents (played by Deadwyler and Patel) form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”

Are Deadwyler and Patel playing new characters?

According to intel from Variety, “Deadwyler and Patel will be playing wholly new characters rather than new iterations of Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully.”

The pilot is from Disney’s 20th Television and Onyx Collective. Coogler and Proximity Media have an overall deal for television at Disney.

Ryan Coogler has been working on the project for some time

Coogler is the writer and director of the pilot, and executive produces under his Proximity Media with Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler. Jennifer Yale is the showrunner and also executive produces. Original The X-Files creator Chris Carter is also producing, while Simone Harris is co-executive producing for Proximity.

As we previously reported, the project has been talked about for some time, with Carter revealing Cooger was working on a diverse reboot in 2022. Coogler has then been asked about the project on and off for the past few years, with original The X-Files star Gillian Anderson co-signing the reboot and even alluding that she would be open to coming back in some capacity.
