15-year-old boy rescued after being swept away by a strong current in Khor Fakkan valley

A 15-year-old Arab boy was rescued unharmed after being swept away by strong currents in a valley in the Al Zubarah area of Khor Fakkan, authorities said on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 4.20pm, when the teenager, who was playing near a valley stream, slipped and fell into the water, according to Khor Fakkan Civil Defence officials.

The fast-moving current carried him an extensive distance downstream before he became trapped among trees in a densely wooded area. Officials said the trees helped slow his movement and prevented the situation from worsening until rescue teams arrived.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert and carried out a swift and safe rescue operation.

The boy was pulled out in good health and did not sustain any injuries, with Civil Defence personnel carrying out the operation efficiently and effectively.

Ajman Police deploy 24/7 patrols

Ajman Police have reassured residents of their full readiness to deal with the ongoing unstable weather conditions affecting the UAE, stressing that all resources have been mobilised to safeguard the public and maintain road safety.

Brigadier Khalid Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, said field teams, including traffic and security patrols, are operating round  the clock under integrated emergency plans to respond swiftly to any weather-related incidents.

He added that the force is equipped to handle reports and emergencies arising from sudden weather changes, ensuring rapid response and minimising risks to road users.

Sharjah, Ajman bus services suspended: RTA

Dubai’s RTA has said that it is suspending bus services to Sharjah and Ajman temporarily starting today at 7pm due to weather conditions and water accumulation on roads.

“Our teams are currently working in coordination with the relevant authorities to resume services as soon as possible,” it added.

The National Center of Meteorology expects tomorrow’s weather to be partly cloudy to cloudy with some cumulus clouds, with heavy rain falling over most areas of the country at intervals, and a drop in temperatures.

The center stated in its daily weather report that the winds will be southeasterly to northeasterly at 15 to 30 km/h, reaching up to 60 km/h. The sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf, especially with clouds. The second high tide will occur at 08:05 and the first low tide at 15:02. Speaking on the “Direct Line” programme on Sharjah Radio and TV, Brigadier Dr Jassim Mohammed bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, official spokesperson for Sharjah Police, advised residents to prioritise their safety as unstable weather continues.

“We advise people to avoid going out and to stay at home until weather conditions improve,” he said.

The advisory comes as heavy rainfall and strong winds continue to impact visibility and road conditions across parts of the UAE.

Sharjah Charity International has intensified its emergency preparedness as its Crisis and Disaster Team continues to hold daily meetings to monitor field conditions during the rainy time.

 Ali Mohammed Al Rashidi, Head of the Crisis and Disaster Team, said the daily meetings focus on real-time assessments of developments on the ground, with preparedness levels raised to address any sudden changes in conditions.

He added that prior coordination has been made with several kitchens to provide meals when required. At the same time, logistics teams have been instructed to prepare blankets and essential supplies to be deployed quickly in emergency situations.

The team is also working closely with relevant authorities to coordinate with shelter centres, in case evacuations become necessary or temporary accommodation is required for families.

On the healthcare front, the association is monitoring the readiness of medical teams at its charitable medical centre in Khorfakkan to handle emergency cases resulting from weather conditions.

The alert, in effect from 10:45am to 2:45pm, highlights the likelihood of cloud formation associated with rainfall, strong winds and possible thunderstorms, particularly across eastern and southern regions.

According to the latest update, parts of Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah fall under yellow to orange alert levels, indicating a moderate to heightened risk of rainfall and gusty winds. Meanwhile, southern and western areas of Abu Dhabi, including Liwa, are under orange alert, signalling a higher, more intense weather activity.
