The curse of Owen Hunt will soon be lifted from Grey Sloan Memorial. We kidd, we kidd. Doctors Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) are leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of season 22. According to The Hollywood Reporter, their final episode will be the season finale on May 7. And it’ll be a happier exit than many get on this show. “Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen — two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves,” series creator Shonda Rhimes said in a statement. “Kevin and Kim bring extraordinary talent, nuance, and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy. Their contributions leave an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them both and to see them shine.”
Owen came to Seattle Grace before it was called Grey Sloan. He’s kind of responsible for the name change, when you think about it. Owen was brought in during the season-five premiere as a replacement love interest for Sandra Oh’s Cristina Yang (their meet-cute happening when he removed an icicle that had impaled her). Owen became a fan unfavorite over the years, but McKidd has become one of the show’s most prolific directors, including of his final episode. Raver has also directed three episodes and thanked a mentor in her farewell statement. “I feel so fortunate to have worked under the brilliance of Debbie Allen, who not only mentored me but welcomed me into the director’s chair,” she wrote. Teddy entered in season six, beginning an endless on-again, off-again cycle. This season started with the duo divorced, but they may have one try left in them before the finale.
