Rick Stein’s Returning to Aussie TV With New Six-Part Docu-Series

Legendary British chef and TV presenter Rick Stein is an honorary Aussie. He’s best known for his classic approach to seafood at his seaside stable of Cornwall restaurants, a few UK spots wider afield and his three holiday-ready Aussie diners in Port Stephens , Mollymook and most-recently Coogee. And now there’s even more Rick, with his new docu-series Rick Stein Australia premiering on SBS next month.
“I first came to Australia at 19 years old, and what I found here changed me,” Stein said in a statement. “It was the beginning of my love affair with the people, the places and the food.”
That adoration’s kept him coming back in the decades since, and is on full view in the first season of his new show, which is filmed exclusively around New South Wales. In episode one, we follow Stein to Sydney’s flash new fish market, Chinatown and the bustling produce markets at Flemington. Then he trips north to the Central Coast – stopping on the Hawkesbury River – and up to the Byron Bay region.
“Travelling around New South Wales for this series reminded me how much there is to discover, Stein continues. “From the incredible diversity of Sydney to the beauty of the coast and the character of the inland. I hope audiences enjoy the journey as much as I did.”
On a 5000-kilometre road trip, the Brit meets First Nations community leaders harvesting native grains in the NSW outback, goes kayaking on Pambula Lake before harvesting rock oysters, heads to a region with strong Italian migration roots, and more.
Filmed over three months, the series is produced by Southern Pictures and was supported by Screen NSW and Destination NSW.
Rick Stein’s Australia premieres on Thursday April 30 at 7.30pm on SBS.
