NASCAR Cup Series qualifying results: William Byron grabs second, Kyle Larson 10th at Martinsville Speedway

RIDGEWAY, Va. – Hendrick Motorsports

returns to one of its most successful tracks as the NASCAR Cup Series takes on Martinsville Speedway this weekend, popularly known as “The Paperclip.”

And it was a good start for the team. William Byron, driver of No. 24 Cincinnati Chevrolet, qualified second with a 19.331-second lap, just a tick behind pole sitter, Denny Hamlin.

“Just trying to be patient with the conditions,” Byron said. “Qualifying was a little different from last fall. I feel like we left pit road without a ton of grip, but I was happy with the lap. Feel like our race car is going to be really good tomorrow. We’ve learned a lot this year.”

Chase Elliott and the No. 9 Unifirst Chevrolet also grabbed a top half start in 10th, while the No. 5 HendrickCars.com

Chevrolet of Kyle Larson will head out 13th. Justin Allgaier, who is subbing in for regular driver Alex Bowman

, secured the 21st starting position in the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet.

Having already scored 30 overall victories

at the 0.526-mile short track, including Byron’s dramatic playoff win in the fall of 2025, the team is optimistic about its chances for the weekend. The Charlotte, North Carolina native now has three triumphs at the facility, while teammates Larson and Elliott have both earned a grandfather clock as well. Those three also sit top 10 in points heading into the weekend with Elliott (fifth), Byron (sixth) and Larson (tenth)
