Report: NFL owners likely to award 2029 Super Bowl to Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — NFL owners have awarded the 2029 Super Bowl to Las Vegas during their annual meeting Monday.

“We’re excited to bring the Super Bowl back to Las Vegas and provide our fans another incredible experience in one of America’s greatest sport and entertainment destinations,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. “Super Bowl LVIII demonstrated the scale, energy and hospitality the city brings to global events, and we look forward to working alongside the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Raiders and the community to deliver an even greater experience this time around.”

This will be the second Super Bowl awarded to Las Vegas following Super Bowl 58 in 2024.

The vote required at least 24 of the 32 owners to approve it.

“We’re proud the NFL has selected Las Vegas to host Super Bowl LXIII,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the LVCVA. “Our first Super Bowl showcased the unique energy and scale only this destination can offer, bringing together world-class sports, entertainment, and hospitality in one place. Las Vegas was built for moments like this, and we look forward to delivering another exceptional experience for fans in 2029.”

Governor Joe Lombardo released the following statement after the NFL voted to have Las Vegas host Super Bowl LXIII:

“I want to thank the NFL for once again choosing Las Vegas to host the Super Bowl. Nevada continues to earn opportunities like this because we’re delivering results. In the past week alone, the NBA announced it is exploring expansion to Las Vegas, and the NFL announced Las Vegas will host Super Bowl LXIII. Las Vegas is the new sports capital of the world, and I look forward to bringing more events, economic growth, and opportunity to the hardworking Nevadans who make it the premier entertainment destination.”

The 2029 Super Bowl is scheduled to air on FOX.

Raiders ownership succession plan on Tuesday agenda

NFL owners are also expected to vote on a succession plan for the ownership of the Raiders. The vote would allow Egon Durbin to become the majority owner of the Raiders and buy the majority of the shares should Mark Davis decide to sell those shares.

Mark Davis said the minority ownership group, which includes Durbin, Mike Meldman and Tom Brady, is important for the franchise moving forward.

“Tom is a partner that is football-oriented and knows football better than probably anybody right now,” Davis said. “Mike, in business and hospitality and everything, knows more about it than I think anybody I know. Egon is a very accomplished businessman in his game, right? And they bring a different structure to the organization and different tools to the organization that gives us the ability to go on the field and off.”

Las Vegas sports boom from 2028-2029

The Las Vegas valley is set for a major run of sporting events starting in 2028, with the Final Four scheduled for early April, the A’s expected to open their new stadium and play their first game, and a possible NBA expansion team on the horizon.

If awarded to the valley, the Super Bowl would follow that run in February 2029.
