Environment Canada is forecasting freezing rain for parts of Quebec stretching from western Quebec to the Chaudière-Appalaches region on Tuesday.

Up to 10 millimetres of freezing rainfall are expected over two periods — Tuesday morning and Tuesday night — in that swath of the province, according to the weather agency.

Montreal is expected to see about five millimetres later in the day.

“The impacts could be limited given that the temperatures will be close to freezing,” the agency says in its special weather statement for the city.

It warns that roads and sidewalks could be icy and make travel difficult.

Precipitation is expected to fall in the form of snow and sleet in parts of Quebec that are further north including in the Lanaudière and the Capitale-Nationale regions.

The Eastern Townships for its part can expect milder temperatures and up to 25 millimetres of rain which in turn could raise the level of some rivers, the agency warns.
