Trail Blazers’ Yang Hansen sees first technical foul rescinded by NBA

After Portland Trail Blazers rookie Yang Hansen was issued his first career technical foul, the NBA on Monday announced that it had been rescinded upon review.

Yang was whistled by referee Curtis Blair late in the fourth quarter on Saturday during a 123-88 win over the Washington Wizards when he and rookie Julian Reese appeared to get tangled up following a free-throw attempt by Jamir Watkins.

Players and coaches are docked $2,000 in pay for each of the first five technical fouls they receive, so Yang and Reese will avoid receiving their first fines from the league. Additionally, their technical foul count for the season will reset to zero.

Yang has played sporadically with the Trail Blazers, averaging 2.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 7.2 minutes across 41 appearances. He recorded a season-high nine points, five rebounds, three assists and one block in a loss to the Phoenix Suns on. Nov. 18.

The 7-footer has played 19 games in the G League, averaging 16.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting 59.2% from the field with the Rip City Remix. He produced a career-high 31 points and eight rebounds on March 11.

Yang has spent much of the season in a developmental role as he adjusts to the different style of basketball in the United States. He was a valued addition through the draft and projects to have a bright future ahead with the organization.
