FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Stormy Night

It will be a stormy night across the Ozarks as a cold front pushes out of Kansas and drives a developing line of thunderstorms toward the region. Storms should reach the Ozarks by mid-evening, bringing the potential for damaging straight-line winds, hail, and a few tornadoes. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected, with localized minor flooding possible.

The primary concern tonight is high wind, as this system is likely to organize into a strong squall line. Bowing segments within the line could spin up brief, rain-wrapped tornadoes. Because these tornadoes may form and dissipate quickly—often hidden by heavy rain—they will be difficult to track and may come with little advance warning. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings overnight.

The cold front is expected to move through Springfield shortly after 1 AM. Winds will turn northwest and temperatures will begin to fall, likely bottoming out around 8 AM near 50°. Skies will gradually clear through the day, with afternoon temperatures recovering into the upper 50s.

Sunny but cool weather is forecast Easter Sunday.(maxuser | ky3)

Easter Sunday morning will be chilly, with lows in the mid to upper 30s. A light breeze could push wind chills close to freezing early, but sunshine should bring highs back into the lower 60s—nice weather for outdoor Easter egg hunts.

Temperatures will warm by the end of next week.(maxuser | ky3)

Seasonable conditions continue Monday and Tuesday with a mix of sun and clouds. Warmer air arrives by midweek, with highs climbing into the low to mid 70s. Rain should hold off until late week, but once it returns, it may signal the start of a wetter pattern that could persist into next weekend.
