Your Easter weekend need to know

It all depends on your family whether you celebrate Easter on the Sunday or the Monday, but when it comes to what is open, there are differences.

Neither Easter Sunday nor Monday are statutory holidays in Ontario, but Monday is a paid holiday for federal employees. Despite the classification, many stores and other common amenities are closed on the Sunday.

City Services

Most city services will be closed both Sunday and Monday. The 3-1-1 call centre will be open for urgent matters only.

There will be no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Monday. Monday’s pickup will take place on Tuesday, April 7 and all other collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

Most Ottawa Public Health services will not be operating on Monday. This includes the sexual health clinic, dental clinics and parenting drop-ins. The harm reduction Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

OC Transpo

All OC Transpo services will run on a normal Sunday schedule on Easter Sunday.

On Monday, OC Transpo buses and O-Train Line 1 will operate on a reduced weekday schedule. O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will run on a normal weekday schedule.

OC Transpo Customer Service will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Regular bookings and recurring trips for Para Transpo for Monday will automatically be cancelled. Customers can book trips for this day by calling 613-560-5000.

Groceries and malls

All grocery stores will be closed on Easter Sunday. LCBO and Beer Stores will also be closed.

Most grocery stores will be open on Monday but may have reduced hours.

All malls and retail stores will be closed on Sunday.

The Rideau Centre, Tanger Outlets, Bayshore Mall, Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, Carlingwood Shopping Centre, St. Laurent Centre and Place d’Orleans will be open on Monday.
