GREENWOOD, S.C. – Augusta University softball split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Lander, taking game one 2-1 before falling 4-0 in game two. The Jaguars move to 18-19 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

Game One

Augusta used a timely fifth inning and strong pitching down the stretch to secure a 2-1 victory in the opener.

After being held scoreless through the first four innings, the Jaguars broke through in the fifth. Chesney Miles worked a walk and advanced into scoring position before Madalyn Spinks delivered a single to put runners on the corners. Kaylynn Scaffe followed with an RBI fielder’s choice to bring home Miles and tie the game. Moments later, Ansley Gibson came through with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Spinks and giving Augusta a 2-1 lead.

Spinks led the Jaguars on both sides of the game, going 2-for-2 at the plate while also earning the win in the circle. Entering in relief, she tossed 4.2 scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while keeping Lander off the board the rest of the way.

Payton Terrell added a strong offensive performance with two hits, while Sydney Gilbert, Victoria Oropeza, and Miles each contributed hits as Augusta totaled eight in the win.

Kristyn Ezzo started in the circle, working 2.1 innings before handing things off to Spinks, who closed out the game and secured the victory.
