German Darts Grand Prix schedule and results

Michael van Gerwen’s defence of the German Darts Grand Prix was brought to a shuddering halt while Gian van Veen also exited the competition on Sunday.

2025 champion Van Gerwen was stunned 6-1 by home favourite Niko Springer, who set up a last-16 tie with Michael Smith on Monday.

William O’Connor ended Van Veen’s participation with a 6-2 victory, while Ryan Searle and Damon Heta were the other big casualties after defeats to Krzysztof Ratajski and Karel Sedlacek respectively.

In Van Gerwen’s absence, Jonny Clayton is leading the title charge, with a game against Kim Huybrechts his reward for overcoming Marcel Hausotter 6-5.

The event, which concludes on Easter Monday, has a 48-player field and a top prize of £35,000.
