Subway service on a western portion of Line 2 is down Tuesday morning as crews work to clean a hydraulic oil spill that happened overnight, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) says.

Shuttle buses are now running between Kipling and Keele stations. There is no estimated time for subway service to resume, the TTC told CBC News.

The oil spilled from a maintenance vehicle near Old Mill station around 2:45 a.m., the TTC says. It’s unclear how much oil has spilled, the transit agency says, but as a precaution, it closed service at stations that don’t allow trains to turn back around.

The TTC says it is investigating the cause of the spill.

Commuters are able to use TTC fare on GO Transit at Dundas West, Kipling, Bloor, Union and Mimico GO stations, according to a TTC alert about the spill.
