Soap star defends under-fire hospital after receiving treatment | ITV News

A soap star has posted in support of the worst performing hospital in the country after being treated at the A&E department.

Michelle Collins, who is best known for her role as Cindy Beale in EastEnders, was visiting friends in Norfolk over the Easter bank holiday when she fell over and “bashed” her knee.

After receiving treatment for “cuts and bruises” at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, the EastEnders actress posted on instagram saying “Staff were great, despite apparently very low on hospital league table.”

In the post to her 168,000 followers, she complimented the care she was given, saying it “seems so unfair to label a hospital like this.”

She continued saying: “Not great for morale as one of the lovely nurses said.”

During her visit to Norfolk, Ms Collins said she also scattered the ashes of her dog, Humphrey, on Old Hunstanton beach.

In September 2025, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital was ranked the worst performing NHS Trust in England, out of 134 trusts, according to NHS England statistics.

The West Norfolk hospital faces challenges because of its age, with parts of the building continuing to be held up by thousands of steel and steel and timber supports.

Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) has also been found in the crumbling structure.

Work to re-build the hospital is expected to start between 2027-2028.
