Today We Say Goodbye to Genshin Impact on PS4

Back in August 2025, HoYoverse announced that it would discontinue support for Genshin Impact on PS4 after April 8, 2026, which happens to be the release date of version 6.5. While it is a good day for many, a huge part of the Genshin Impact community will no longer play the title.
Genshin Impact has been a game enjoyed by millions of players across all platforms. PS4 sheltered a big part of that community, but due to hardware limitations, HoYoverse can no longer keep up with it.
A 13-Year-Old Piece of Hardware
PS4 is over a decade old, and it is only a matter of time before it officially gets the ‘retro’ stamp. Modern games simply cannot keep up with the old tech.
Despite Genshin Impact starting as a free-to-play game that could be played even on low-end systems, it now requires quite a lot of resources.
Each update as of late has been the size of an indie or even a double-A title. The upcoming 6.6 version of Genshin Impact will be almost 9 GB on PC, which goes to show just how much is added every single patch.
It is a surprise that PS4 has been able to keep up until now. Regardless, all hope is not lost for PS4 players because they can still shift to other platforms whenever they can.
Moving on to Other Platforms
While support for the PS4 has ended, players can continue enjoying Genshin Impact on other platforms. The problem, however, is that many are unable to do that.
Even on phones, Genshin requires high specs just to be playable, and with a majority of the fanbase coming from developing countries, not everyone can simply afford a whole new system just for one game.
Many players have shared the sentiment that they would not be able to continue for months before they can get a PS5 or an upgraded phone. As unfortunate as the situation is, it goes to show that the game has come a long way.
If you are a PS4 player, what have been your favorite moments playing Genshin Impact? And will you be moving to other platforms to continue your adventure in Tevyat?
