Det Insp Kevin Hames, from East Midlands Murder Investigation Team, said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation into the incident and the events leading up to it.
“The victim’s family have been identified and are being supported by specialist officers through this extremely difficult time.
“We would urge anyone who was in this area during the evening and may have witnessed what happened, or has any information about the incident, to get in touch. We know it’s not always easy to report what you may have seen or heard, but it’s vitally important we speak to as many people as possible.
“A CCTV trawl and house-to-house inquiries in the area are under way.”
