The Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s will be jam packed with hockey fans Friday night, as the Newfoundland Regiment squares off against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for Game 5 of the second round of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) playoffs.

“We’re excited about the opportunity tonight,” Regiment head coach and general manager Gordie Dwyer told CBC News during the team’s Friday morning skate. “We’ve had lots of success here this season. So we’re looking forward to tonight’s matchup.”

The Regiment won Tuesday’s game 5-4. Coming off that win, Dwyer said he’s hoping to keep the momentum going.

“It’s playoff hockey. So we’re making our adjustments as we need to as [the] series advances,” he said.

The stakes are high. Friday’s contest could mark the last home game of the season for the Regiment, pending the outcome of the remainder of the series. The Regiment needs two wins to advance to the next round, and games six and seven are on the road in Quebec.

Dwyer said a sold out home crowd will be good for the team’s spirit.

“We know the fans will be here, we know the fans will be loud tonight and they’ll definitely give us a big boost at home ice,” he said.

Forward Ben Veitch of St. John’s said he’s looking forward to that boost of energy.

“I’m just really excited for tonight. I think it’s going to be, really, a test of the competition and a sold out crowd is really going to help us,” he said.

Veitch said the team isn’t letting the pressure get to them.

“We just got to kind of like, put that past us and just focus on the game,” he said. ” All the boys are, like, dialed in and just getting ready for tonight.”

“We wanted to have as much games as we can at this rink and hopefully we can win it and come back in the next series.”
