Donnie Freeman trending toward St. John’s after push from Rick Pitino

Well, it looks like Kentucky Basketball may be losing Donnie Freeman to Rick Pitino of all people.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, St. John’s has gained momentum in this recruitment after Pitino made an offer to Freeman that’s bigger than what Kentucky is currently offering.
“Rick Pitino and the Johnnies have the edge at this point. Sources believe St. John’s has the highest offer on the table and is currently positioned to close out Freeman, barring Kentucky making a push and upping its offer,” wrote Nakos.
This would be a brutal yet all too familiar development for Mark Pope, who has struggled mightily to get recruitments across the finish line after seemingly being in the lead. The Wildcats thought they had Freeman this weekend, but it appears another big-time prospect may have slipped right through Pope’s fingers.
And because Kentucky has put its eggs in Freeman’s basket, other targets like Sebastian Rancik have gone off the board.
Kentucky desperately needs to find a way to close this one out.
