Person dies outside Unit 3 residence hall at UC Berkeley

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, UCPD and the Berkeley Fire Department responded to a death outside of Norton Hall of Unit 3.
Campus spokesperson Adam Ratliff confirmed in a statement that a person died near campus housing tonight, and added that due to privacy laws and university policies, campus cannot comment on confidential student matters.
As of press time, the exact nature of the death, the identity of the person and whether they were a student remains unclear.
The main entrance of Norton Hall is closed off as of press time, but some people are being let into the building, as witnessed by reporters with The Daily Californian.
UCPD and the Berkeley Fire Department have not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
Ratliff wrote that counseling services are available at Counseling and Psychological Services for the campus community.
“We are saddened by this tragic news and wish to extend our condolences to this person’s family and friends,” Ratliff wrote in a statement.
