York City signs newest player – here’s all you need to know

YORK City Football Club has announced the signing of its newest player ahead of its triumphant return to League Two.
Midfielder Mark Shelton, 29, will join the club after his contact at Barnet FC ends on July 1.

Mark began his career through youth setups at Nottingham Forest and Burton Albion.

A representative for the club explained: “In 2016, he made his first permanent move to Ilkeston before joining Alfreton Town shortly after.
“His first professional highlight came with Salford City whom he played a key part in their promotion to the football league for the first time ever.”

Mark repeated the same feat in his move to Hartlepool United, where he featured over 90 times.
He achieved promotion to the English Football League through the play-offs in 2021.
Mark spent a season at Oldham before becoming a fan favourite at Barnet, where he gained his third National League promotion – this time as a champion.
