‘I’ve never seen anything like this’ General store gathered support for Searsmont fire suppression efforts

SEARSMONT, Maine (WABI) – While over 20 fire departments assisted in the fire suppression efforts at Robbins Lumber the community was coming together to support them.

Fraternity Village General Store became a relay point for the community to pass along support as the hours long fire suppression effort continued.

Community members brought in water and food for the fire fighters, with the general store baking around 30 pizzas for the fire fighters from donated ingredients.

One of the owners said it was impressive how much support had gathered with just word of mouth spreading the news.

Tammy Rector, co-owner of Fraternity Village General Store, said “I’ve never seen anything like this before, in the years I have been here nothing as catastrophic has happened like this so to have that happen and the people pull together, I’ve never seen anything like it. Just people started bringing water over, like seriously, it starts with one person and word of mouth and knowing it was a store, and we had people from Bangor, like ‘hey we’re gonna bring up some water’ and it just continued and continued.“

As well as supplies the store began raising money for the affected families and will be working with a member of the Robbins family to make sure that money gets to those who need it.
