Car recalls: Why they happen and what buyers should know
Why do car recalls happen? Here’s what to know if your car has an open recall.
Honda is recalling nearly 60,000 vehicles due to an increased risk of a crash or injury after some vehicles’ rearview camera display showed “distorted or blank” images, according to a notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The malfunction is happening because the camera’s housing may not be properly bonded, according to the recall report. Because of this, the adhesive used to assemble the camera may separate, allowing moisture to corrode the camera’s internal electrical components and cause the camera’s image to “become blurry, distorted, or fail todisplay, resulting in a black screen.”
Here’s what to know about what models are included in the recall and what car owners should do.
What models are included in the Honda recall?
The recall includes approximately 59,887 vehicles. The following models are included in the recall, according to the NHTSA:
- 2024 Acura ZDX
- 2024-2025 Honda Prologue
What car owners should do if they have a recalled Honda vehicle
Car owners can take their vehicles to a Honda dealer, where the rearview camera will be replaced for free, according to the NHTSA notice.
On July 6, letters will be sent to owners of the recalled vehicles, notifying them of the recall and safety risks. Those with questions may reach out to Honda’s customer service at 888-234-2138. Honda has numbered the recalls as DO5 and RO6, and the NHTSA ID Number for the recall is 26V306000.
Owners who believe their cars might be involved in the recall can also search for their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) or state and license plate numbers on NHTSA.gov to see whether their vehicles are included.
