Remains of missing B.C. actor Stewart McLean found, homicide investigation continues

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says investigators have identified the remains of a missing actor in Lions Bay, B.C.
Squamish RCMP were notified on May 18 that Stewart McLean, also known as Stew McLean, had not been seen since May 15.
RCMP Sgt. Vanessa Munn said police were told that the 45-year-old McLean was last seen at his residence in Lions Bay, a community in B.C.’s Sea-to-Sky region around 20 kilometres northwest of Vancouver.
McLean was an actor who appeared in TV series such as Virgin River and Murder in a Small Town.

On Friday, IHIT said it had found and identified McLean’s remains in the Lions Bay area.
“As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Mr. McLean’s activities prior to May 15, 2026,” Cpl. Esther Tupper of IHIT said in a release.
“We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. McLean.”

Jodi Caplan, McLean’s agent, told CBC News in a statement that her agency, Lucas Talent, was devastated to hear of McLean’s passing.
“We have been proud to represent Stew for over a decade, and he was a well respected and admired member of the film and television community in Vancouver. He will always be remembered for his kindness and humour,” the statement read.
