In the blink of an eye, it was over, and without warning PlayStation today brought an unceremonious end to the life of Destruction AllStars with a delisting and the announcement that it’s servers were being taken offline.
Typically when games are taken offline there is a warning period, and a since of wind down as the developers tell the community the game is going away, but that was completely absent from Sony’s shocking removal of Destruction AllStars. There is no announcement on the PlayStation Blog, nothing else, just an announcement to those who had a copy of it from purchasing it or from PS Plus and its complete lack of listing on the PlayStation Store.
First reported by Radec on X, we independently confirmed the game was no longer findable on the PlayStation store. There was a Game Service Shutdown message that reads as follows:
Multiplayer services for Destruction AllStars have been taken offline.
Destruction Points have been removed from sale on the PlayStation Store and can be redeemed until 25th November 2026. Arcade mode remains accessible for returning players.
The last bit does mean that the offline modes will at least remain available for people who own Destruction AllStars, and while the game may not have been beloved, there were surely a few fans of it out there. It’s not been an easy life for the PlayStation 5 exclusive which was supposed to be a launch title but was delayed into 2021, with preorders being refunded as well.
Once it released, also on PlayStation Plus, it struggled to find an audience and within a month it had a major price cut as they attempted to interest players in the game, dropping the non-PS Plus price from $70 to $20. It had a little bit of ongoing content but didn’t pick up any more as Sony moved on, leaving the game in a maintenance mode until today, with the last Twitter post on the game’s official feed being in 2022. Now it joins Concord in the realm of dead Sony live service ambitions that litter the past 6 years.
