He threw just 58 pitches across four scoreless innings.
Mize showed discomfort in his lower body after striking out Jorge Soler for the second out in the fourth inning. After the inning, he left the dugout en route for the clubhouse with assistant athletic trainer Kelly Rhoades.
This marks Mize’s second injury this season.
It’s the same injury.
Mize previously returned May 16 from a 17-day stint on the injured list with a right adductor strain. He has a 1.08 ERA in three starts since coming back from the injured list.
In 2026, Mize owns a 2.27 ERA with 12 walks and 49 strikeouts across 47⅔ innings in nine starts. He kept the Angels scoreless through four innings, dominating with six strikeouts to avoid damage on two hits and one walk.
In Wednesday’s game, the Tigers replaced Mize with right-handed reliever Drew Anderson. The severity of Mize’s injury is unknown, as he remains under evaluation.
Mize becomes a free agent in November 2026.
