WTA French Open Second Round Best Bets Including Julia Grabher vs Amanda Anisimova

The WTA French Open competition features the second round on Thursday. The conditions in Paris have stayed very hot, and the action in the women’s tournament has not cooled down, either. Some big upsets have marked the first few days of the women’s event. Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula, both top-five seeds, have lost. Other high seeds have been challenged, and some of the middle or lower-seeded players have lost. Women’s tennis is deep and unpredictable, but it makes for an exciting French Open tournament. LWOS has our best bets for three matches on Thursday. Post your best bets and thoughts in the comments.

WTA French Open

Grabher – Anisimova: Time 7:00 EST

H2H: 0-0

Julia Grabher faces Amanda Anisimova. Grabher is 3-2 in her last five matches, but she has been playing some lower-level events. She failed to get out of the qualifying rounds in Rome. It is unclear what kind of form Grabher possesses as she enters this second-round match. She did beat Rebecca Sramkova in the first round of the French Open, but does one match represent enough evidence to suggest that Grabher is an in-form player? Anisimova has missed almost the entire clay season with injuries. She returned to the court at the French Open after two months away from the court. She was able to win her match in straight sets, but one match is not that much of a basis for evaluating Anisimova’s form or her physical fitness.

Best Bet to Make

The fact that Anisimova is returning from a long injury break means that if you bet on this match, you should probably wager less money than you would on other matches for which you are more confident about the outcome. If you do bet on this match, Anisimova in straight sets has an acceptable price. It’s not a great price, but it’s just enough to make a bet allowable. Grabher is not in good enough form to earn the trust of bettors. Anisimova should be the play if you want to wager on this one.

That being said, betting on Anisimova winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Chwalinska – Mertens: Time 7:00 EST

H2H: 0–0

Maja Chwalinska faces Elise Mertens. Chwalinska is definitely an in-form player, having won four straight matches and eight of her last 10. She’s playing really well, and she is coming off a moneyline upset win in the first round against Qinwen Zheng. Elise Mertens is a top-25 player whose recent results are not amazing but certainly decent. Mertens’ most recent losses are to Mirra Andreeva and Karolina Pliskova, good players who have real talent. Mertens just defeated Tatjana Maria in straight sets in the first round. She is priced as the clear favorite in this match.

Best Bet to Make

The move here is to have Mertens moneyline in a parlay, but to then bet on Chwalinska in a single bet. Chwalinska probably won’t win the match, but her tremendous form and her recent victory over Qinwen Zheng (a former top-10 player who has been good on clay in the past) suggest that she is good enough to keep the match close. Chwalinska +1.5 sets offers a solid price. Given the way Chwalinska is playing, that seems like a bet that is far more likely to hit than fail. That’s the kind of bet you should always try to make.

That being said, betting on Chwalinska +1.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Li – Parry: Time 8:00 EST

H2H: 1–0

Ann Li faces Diane Parry. Ann Li is coming off a solid straight-set win over Shuai Zhang in the first round. Li, who beat Iga Swiatek earlier in this clay season in Madrid, is a top-35 player who has not been dominant this spring, but has certainly scored a few really good match wins. Diane Parry is one of only two French women to move into the second round of the French Open. Because of this, Parry should get a lot of crowd support and encouragement, playing in front of her home-nation fans.

Best Bet to Make

Li is in solid form, but Parry is too, and Parry is playing in front of supportive French fans. A lot of tour matches are neutral in terms of the crowd, so when there’s a real home-crowd advantage, the betting markets might not factor that into the price. You could think about the over 2.5 set bet here, but with Parry playing such good tennis, it feels like a safer and more logical bet to ride with Parry. You can simply trust that Parry wins one set. If she does, you’ll get a very good price for it.

That being said, betting on Parry +1.5 sets is a value bet for sure.
