Oklahoma City Thunder Signing DeAndre Jordan In NBA Free Agency

Realistically, the Oklahoma City Thunder could have gone through the NBA offseason and not made a single change with their team. With such a strong core, it would make total sense not to just completely run it back with the same group.

However, if there’s going to be a small move to be made, it could be a minor free agent acquisition. At this point in the summer, we’re at the point where it’s time to talk about players at the end of the bench.

It’s not the most exciting move, but one idea that could make sense is the Thunder signing DeAndre Jordan. Although after winning the NBA Finals, the Thunder don’t really need more experienced veterans, one of the main knocks on them is their youth.

If the Thunder want to go back-to-back, which is incredibly hard to do, having a veteran presence who also won a championship back in 2023 would make sense.

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT.

Oklahoma City Thunder Signing DeAndre Jordan

At this point in the offseason, when a player isn’t signed, they should be looking for any contract. Jordan is 37 years old, so it seems like both teams would see the benefit of a one-year deal.

Most recently, Jordan was with the Denver Nuggets, where he played between 11 and 15 MPG in each of his three seasons. That championship ring that Jordan has is from the Nuggets in 2023, so Jordan could provide some intel on this franchise, which is one of the main threats to Oklahoma City.

How DeAndre Jordan Fits in Oklahoma City

As mentioned above, the reason that Jordan would be on this team is to balance out the youth. While that’s not a must, both Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams are younger.

Having Jordan come in at times, give Hartenstein and Williams a breather while still allowing the Thunder to rebound the ball well, would be a great move.

While Jordan already has a ring, if he can sit on the end of the bench, specialize in the rebounding department, and end his career with a championship, that would be picture-perfect.

Oklahoma City Thunder 2025-2026 Outlook

Adding Jordan to the Thunder wouldn’t have a big impact on the team’s 2025-2026 outlook. Most players that are added to the end of the bench don’t really have an impact on their team, anyway.

However, it’s small moves like this that could help the Thunder just get slightly better. It’s not the most exciting kind of move, but these moves are ones that all NBA teams must make.

In terms of the Thunder winning the NBA Finals again, it’s going to depend on how Shai Gilgeous-Alexander plays next year. If Gilgeous-Alexander plays even close to how he did last year, it’s going to be hard for any team to beat them.

However, if there’s any regression from Gilgeous-Alexander, it could put the Thunder’s chances of winning another championship in jeopardy.

DeAndre Jordan Stats

Jordan was putting up elite stats in his prime, but those days are behind him. Recently, the main contribution that Jordan brings to the table is rebounding.

Last year, Jordan had 5.1 REB, 3.7 PPG, and 0.5 BLK in just 12.3 MPG.

Again, this is just a prediction about the Oklahoma City Thunder signing DeAndre Jordan in NBA free agency, not a report.
