Stats: Teams to have won domestic and Euro double | Stats | News

We head to Budapest this weekend to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final, with history in our sights.

We’ll be taking part in just our second European Cup final, and after already clinching the Premier League title, we have the chance to join a very exclusive list.

That’s because since the continental competition was rebranded in 1992/93, only two other English clubs have won the Premier League and Champions League in the same season.

Manchester United have achieved it twice, firstly in 1998/99 and then again in 2007/08, overcoming Chelsea in the final in Moscow. Manchester City are the other side to do it in 2022/23, beating Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul.

Across the European Cup era stretching back to the 1950s, only one other English club has done the same: Liverpool in 1977 and 1984. The only British side in the list is Celtic, back in 1966/67:

Should we go on to win Europe’s top honour in Budapest, we’d become just the third team in history to win our first Champions League, as well as our domestic league in the same campaign.

This has actually happened twice in the past three competitions. Manchester City achieved this three years ago, with PSG also winning the league and lifting the UCL for the first time last season when they defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich.

Should we emerge triumphant on Saturday night against the French champs and keep a clean sheet, we will also be breaking records.

The class of 2025/26 would be on 10 clean sheets, moving us level with our own record from 2005/06, as well as Real Madrid’s clean sheet record from 2015/16.

David Raya would also move clear of a host of goalkeepers to keep nine clean sheets in a single season. Our Spaniard is level with Eduard Mendy, Keylor Navas and Santiago Canizares on nine clean sheets in a campaign.

Good things come to those who wait, they say, and we have been waiting longer than anyone for a Champions League title.

A victory over PSG at the Puskas Arena would mean we dispel our current record of playing the most UCL games without winning the trophy:
