Mackinac County man wins $2 million on scratch-off ticket

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — A Mackinac County man is a millionaire after a scratch-off ticket he bought before a road trip turned out to be worth $2 million.

The 27-year-old winner told the Michigan Lottery he has a tradition of buying a Two Million Dollar Cashword ticket before traveling with friends or family. He purchased his latest ticket at the Meijer gas station in Sault Ste. Marie before heading home from a trip.

The man said he initially believed he had won $10,000 before realizing he had uncovered a tenth winning word and claimed the game’s $2 million top prize.

“I’ll be honest, I cried like a baby,” the winner said in a statement released by the Michigan Lottery. “It still feels like a dream.”

The winner chose a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.3 million instead of annuity payments for the full prize amount.

He told lottery officials he plans to take a vacation to Hawaii and invest the rest of his winnings.
