► FOLLOW ALONG

• The Pirates give up a four-run lead in the eighth inning and suffer an 11-9 loss to the Astros, ending their four-game winning streak. Henry Davis hit a grand slam and Nick Gonzales homered and drove in three runs. Paul Skenes lasted 4 2/3 innings.

RUNS: Smith sends a triple down the right-field line to plate two. Six runs for Houston here in the eighth. Massive collapse by the Pirates bullpen. Astros, 11-9

RUN: Soto throws a wild pitch on ball four to Paredes and the tying run scores. Just like that a four-run lead is gone. Tied at 9-9

RUN: Walker beats the shift and reaches on a single. One run scores and the tying run moves into third on an error by Lowe. Pirates, 9-8

RUN: Alvarez comes through with his fourth hit of the night. RBI single to center off of Soto makes it a two-run game. Pirates, 9-7

• Peña walks to put two on for Alvarez. The latter represents the tying run. Kelly will turn to Gregory Soto

RUN: The Astros aren’t going away quietly. Mason Montgomery gives up back-to-back doubles. Christian Vazquez drives in Nick Allen with his. Pirates, 9-6

RUN: Gonzales follows up a Lowe walk with an RBI double to right. First time since 1928 that the Pirates have scored at least nine runs in four straight games. Pirates, 9-5

HOME RUN: Astros get two back on a two-run shot for Paredes. Pirates, 8-5

RUN: Garcia sends a double into deep center and Cruz scores easily from first. Pirates, 8-3

HOME RUN: It hasn’t been his night on defense, but Gonzales shows off some power with his second homer of the season. Two-run shot to left. Pirates, 7-3

• Ramirez strikes out two of the three he faces in a scoreless sixth.

• Pirates add some insurance, but the bases are left loaded as Lowe grounds out.

RUN: The Pirates regain their two-run lead off the bat of Triolo. RBI single into right scores Cruz easily. Pirates, 5-3

• Two on with nobody out for the Pirates following back-to-back walks by Cruz and Ozuna. Bryan King replaces Santa.

• Some good at-bats from Cruz here tonight. Reaches for the third time on a leadoff walk.

• Meyers grounds into a 5-4 fielder’s choice. Lead remains intact heading to the sixth.

RUN: Skenes comes one pitch away from getting out of the fifth. Cam Smith delivers a two-out RBI single into right to make it a one-run game here in the fifth. Pirates, 4-3

• Skenes with two huge strikeouts of Walker and Paredes. Don Kelly comes out but he’s sticking with him, despite Skenes being at 103 pitches.

• Top of the Astros’ order has had little trouble against Skenes tonight. Back-to-back singles here in the fifth. Peña is 2 for 2 with a walk and a run scored and Alvarez is 2 for 3 with an RBI.

• Gonzales error doesn’t hurt Skenes. Aside from the fact that he had to throw more pitches than he should have.

• GRAND SLAM: An absolute nuke off the bat of Henry Davis. No other words are necessary. Pirates, 4-2

• Pirates load the bases on an Ozuna single, a HBP and a Triolo walk. Davis to the plate in a big spot with two outs in the fourth.

RUN: Gonzales can’t get in front of a ball hit sharply down the left-field line by Paredes. Astros, 2-0

RUN: Alvarez sends an RBI single into right to plate the game’s first run in the third. Second hit of the inning off Skenes. Astros, 1-0

• Astros putting some pressure on Skenes here. Peña draws out a nice at-bat before reaching on a one-out walk. Two on for Alvarez.

• Perfectly executed bunt single by Allen to lead off the third.

• Lowe goes down looking and Reynolds grounds out to first to strand Horwitz. Runner stranded for a third straight inning.

• Horwitz with his second hit already. Single into right. As the fictional Peter Brand once said, “He gets on base.”

• Unlike Ozuna, Horwitz actually has a reason to challenge but fails. Pitch just caught the corner. Now the Pirates are out of them in the third inning.

• Skenes strikes out two of the three he faces in a 1-2-3 second. He’s sitting at 23 pitches over two innings. Finished off both of his strikeouts with the changeup.

• Garcia hits one to third with the infield in and Cruz goes on contact. Out easily at home.

• Cruz swipes second and gets to third on an Ozuna groundout. Big spot here for Garcia to get something in the air.

• Skenes keeps the Astros of the board. Got Alvarez to fly out, Walker to ground out 4-3 and Paredes to fly out to right. The latter is now 0 for 11 in his career against Skenes.

• Peña reaches on what’s ruled an error on Gonzales. Goes right past him and down the left-field line. Astros already with a guy in scoring position.

• Reynolds strikes out looking and Gonzales grounds out 6-3 to end the first.

• Wicked curveball Arrighetti has.

• Call overturned. Infield single for Horwitz. Looked like Arrighetti missed the bag.

• One batter in we’re already getting our first review. Horwitz hit a hot shot to Walker, who made an exceptional play to stop that one from going down the line. Tossed it to first and Horwitz was called out on a bang bang play.
