Police issue warning after handing out increased speeding fines due to TT races | ITV News

Police on the Isle of Man are urging drivers to watch their speed – after reporting an increase in speeding fines.

It comes as thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts travel to see the TT races, with many taking to the roads themselves in between.

Officers say they have already handed out more speeding fines than the 2025 races, with the 2026 festival not due to end until Saturday 6 June.

Police reported one instance of someone doing over 100mph in a 50mph zone.

Inspector Elliot Butler said: “There was somebody caught doing I think 118 miles per hour in a 50 zone, which is astronomical. We also had someone doing double the speed limit in Onchen, you know it’s a village.

“It’s a small road, you’re doing nearly double the speed limit through there it’s a 30 mile an hour speed limit and I believe they were doing around 60 miles per hour through it which is just unacceptable.”

One of the most famous corses of the TT races is the Mountain Road, with many motorcyclist travelling just to take their own bike around the course.

Sergeant Anthony Corlett said: “They come over here to have fun and to have a good time and we want them to do that. We just don’t want people to over step that mark.

“We don’t want to pick people up off the road or attend a serious incident because a ripple effect from that is far more than just dealing with those people at a scene.

“It effects families, people over here, locals, sometimes businesses, farmers having their fences gone through all sorts of things. The amount of people effected people don’t really realise until it effects them, and we don’t want it to effect them.”

The Isle of Man TT 2026 started on Monday 25 May, and will end Saturday 6 June 2026.
