19-Year-Old Andreeva Beats Chwalinska to Win 2026 French Open Women’s Final Bracket at Roland-Garros
Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva is a Grand Slam winner at just 19 years old.
The world No. 8 became the youngest French Open winner in 34 years with a 6-6, 6-2 win over Poland’s Maja Chwalińska on Saturday at Roland-Garros.
Andreeva now ranks behind only Maria Sharapova and Emma Raducanu as the WTA’s youngest first-time major winner this century.
Chwalińska and Andreeva began Saturday’s final by trading long volleys during a 3-3 start to the first set.
Andreeva got her third break of the match went she went up 4-3 in the first set, and she took control from there.
After closing out the first set for a 6-3 win, Andreeva dominated in the second set while climbing out to a 5-0 lead.
Chwalińska fought back with two straight wins to cut the deficit to 5-2 before Andreeva closed out the second set.
The Roland-Garros field was left open for a first-time winner after No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka suffered an upset quarterfinal loss to Diana Shnaider earlier in the tournament.
Chwalińska will finish as runner-up after joining Raducanu as the second qualifier to make it all the way to a Grand Slam singles final in the Open era.
Andreeva made it to her first Grand Slam final after making it past No. 18 Sorana Cirstea in the quarterfinal and defeating Marta Kostyuk in the semifinal, both in straight sets.
