Crews battle large commercial warehouse blaze in Ballard

Seattle fire crews are responding to reports of a commercial building fire in the 800 block of NW 42nd St. near Ballard, where firefighters on scene have reported a working fire.

Fire crews are working to gain access to the building and put water on the fire, the Seattle Fire Department said. The fire was reported in a commercial warehouse.

Officials are asking people to avoid the area. The response was upgraded to a 3-alarm fire, bringing in additional resources.

Seattle police closed NW 42nd Street and Leary Way NW near 805 NW 42nd St. in both directions as firefighters battled the blaze.

Firefighters evacuated the building and transitioned to a defensive strategy, putting water on the fire from a safe distance.

The Seattle Fire Department said its fireboat pumped water to engines on shore, which then supplied water to ladder trucks as crews worked to contain the fire.

A Seattle Fire Department spokesperson told KOMO News that one firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Seattle fire officials also urged nearby residents to close windows and doors because of smoke.

The Seattle Fire Department later reported the fire was under control.

Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for several hours to monitor for potential flare-ups. Officials said the injured firefighter was evaluated by an aid crew.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
