Here’s the folks that will be sitting on Labrador’s town councils

The polls have closed for the municipalities taking part in the general municipal election. Many municipalities in Labrador are seeing some big changes, here’s who has been voted in and acclaimed to represent their community members for the next four years.

Making the switch from provincial to municipal politics, former NDP MHA Jordan Brown will be the next mayor of Labrador City. Brown says he’s happy that the relationship he’s built with his community the last six years translated into him being able to serve them as mayor.

“This is my hometown. I love this place and I love the people here and I’m glad that they’re [showing] me some confidence to go and do this for them and I hope I represent them to the best of my availability,” Brown told CBC News on election night.
Brown says his priorities will be housing, and getting power to the community to ensure Labrador City has the ability to grow.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay livestreamed their election results coming in on an Excel spreadsheet on their Facebook page, and new Mayor-elect Bert Pomeroy says that he “was like a cat on a tin roof in a rain storm.”
“I’m very honoured and humbled that I’ve earned the trust of residents and I’m ready to get down to work. I mean, tonight we celebrate, you know, and I mean tomorrow the real work begins,” said Pomeroy.

Many towns in Labrador with acclaimed councils
Six towns that took part in the municipal elections had acclaimed councils. Charlottetown, in southern Labrador, missed the deadline for the nomination notice and will take part in a special election once the date is posted.
