Toronto police say a suspect is in custody after a woman was shot and killed outside of a residence in Rexdale early Friday morning.
Officers were called around 7:23 a.m. to Arborwood Drive, in the area of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard, for reports of a female victim suffering from a gunshot injury. Police say the suspect fled before officers arrived.
Paramedics responded, but the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
Toronto police tell CityNews the deceased female is an adult and that she was shot outside of a residence.
“We feel that this is a localized issue, meaning that this woman was targeted,” said Insp. Scott Bradbury. “I can’t provide exact details, but our investigation is what is leading us to believe that.”
In an update from investigators on Friday afternoon, police said the suspect was taken into custody. No other details were immediately provided.
Anyone with information, including dashcam footage or surveillance video from the area, is asked to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
