PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Grasshopper Fire has moved west, and as a result, Mt. Hood Meadows is now under a Level 3 — Go Now evacuation order.

Fire officials said the resort sits in a “very defensible space,” allowing them to build up strong fire contingency lines around the structures.

The ski resort announced the evacuation on social media.
“Whelp, we hoped we wouldn’t have to post this, but here we are,” they said. “As of this morning, Meadows is under a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation.”
The latest update from fire managers says the fire has burned 34,659 acres and is 19% contained.

The resort says they are in communication with the forest service. “We ask that everyone stay away from the area so fire personnel can do their jobs,” the resort said.
ODOT tells KATU News that Highway 35 remains open at this time.
