‘One game don’t determine your season’: Grambling head coach speaks on 2025 football season so far

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Grambling State University Tigers have had a roller coaster of a 2025 season.
The Tigers are 3-2 this season and feeling well-rested coming off their bye week.
They opened the 2025 season in dominant fashion, beating NAIA Langston University 55-7 during the Shreveport Kickoff Classic.
But one week later Grambling State was on the receiving end of an absolute beatdown from the number one team in the country, Ohio State, losing 70-0.
But since returning to FCS play, Grambling has had its ups and downs, as the Tigers are 2-1 in FCS play.
Grambling beat both Kentucky State and East Texas A&M, but the wins didn’t come without any drama.
You could call Grambling the cardiac cats, as in both wins, the team came back from being down 14-0.
The Tigers pulled a comeback for the ages in their win over Kentucky State as Tyrell Raby forced a fumble and then took it to the house for the walk off touchdown.
And in the Tigers’ following game against East Texas A&M, Grambling took its lead back with less than a minute remaining, and Grambling’s defense stood tall, forcing the Lions to attempt a 50-plus-yard field goal that would sail wide left.
”We got the grit. We’re going to fight for 60 minutes. We’re older on the defensive side of the ball. I think we have almost twenty-something graduates. So they’re a little more poised,” Joseph said.
We’re older on the defensive side ball. I think we have almost twenty-something graduates. So, they’re a little more poised,” Grambling Head Coach Mickey said.
After that, Grambling went on the road to take on Prairie View A&M, where the Tigers’ offense would struggle mightily.
Grambling couldn’t keep drives alive against the Patriots’ defense, only converting five of seventeen third down conversions. And the Tigers failed to convert any of their fourth down attempts.
Along with that, the Tigers turned it over four times. Southern transfer quarterback C’zavian Teasett accounted for a majority of the turnovers as he threw three interceptions and only completed 49% of his passes in the Tigers’ loss.
“We fought for sixty minutes against PV. We just fell short, and that happens. That happens in life. But one game don’t determine your season. You gotta move on. God woke you up. You have great day ahead of you, and you have another opportunity to win the game.”
After that, Grambling had its bye week, and that gave the Tigers clean up a couple of things.
“We wanted to make sure we worked. That we worked on the things that were hurting us from the previous five weeks. And that’s what we did as a team. It’s Grambling versus Grambling, you know. You versus you to get better during an off week. And after that, we focused on Texas Southern,” the head football coach said.
Grambling State is looking to get their first win in SWAC as they host Texas Southern on Saturday, October 11 for homecoming.
