The Lions went to Arrowhead Stadium on the opening night of the season two years ago and beat the Chiefs’ 21-20 when the home side were attempting to celebrate their Super Bowl victory. They were party poopers that night but another Lions success on their return to Missouri would only add to the gloom hanging over the Chiefs.
Based on their performances over the first five weeks of the season, the Lions are clearly the better side and they have not really put a foot wrong since losing their opener on the road at Green Bay. The Lions have some defensive issues and will be without cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and DJ Reed, but the outlook is brighter for the visitors offensively.
The men from the Motor City are leading the NFL with an average score of 34.8 points per game, with quarterback Jared Goff top of the rankings for pass completion percentage (75.34).
The Chiefs’ offence has seriously regressed with QB Patrick Mahomes averaging just 6.9 yards per pass, while an interception cost them the game in Jacksonville. Tight end Travis Kelce has not been a factor this year and with Detroit operating at a higher level this season, the Lions look worth backing in receipt of a small handicap start.
