Ithaca Police make arrest in parking garage during vehicle break-in investigation

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Police Department made an arrest in an investigation into vehicle break-ins.
The police department charged Justin Carl, 40, of Ithaca with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
Police said, on Monday, officers were conducting a foot patrol of the Green Street Parking Garage when they saw a suspicious person, Carl, walking in an area between vehicles. At the time, officers were investigating incidents of vehicle break-ins.
Police said Carl became confrontational when officers approached him and he resisted being placed into handcuffs. The department said when he was told he was under arrest, he became more “combative” with officers. Police said a handgun fell out of his sweater’s pocket as he was struggling with officers.
The department said additional charges are pending and asks the public to keep their vehicles locked.
