Ferrari focuses on unity between Maranello and track engineers as Togninalli stays and Serra takes charge

There will be no revolution at Ferrari. Matteo Togninalli remains at the head of track engineering, while Loic Serra has been given the task of fostering stronger cooperation between the Maranello base and the engineers working trackside. The news, first reported by Motorsport.com, tempers the recent wave of speculation surrounding Ferrari’s internal structure. Although some gears within the team may have slipped, Frédéric Vasseur’s project continues steadily.

The disappointing weekend in Singapore reignited doubts about the entire structure of the Scuderia. Rumours quickly spread about Christian Horner and the alleged dissatisfaction of Ferrari chairman John Elkann, reportedly tired of the current team principal’s management. The internal atmosphere was said to have deteriorated badly, as suggested by reports of a heated discussion – later denied by Ferrari – between Frédéric Vasseur and Matteo Togninalli at Marina Bay.

The Valtellina-born engineer found himself at the centre of the storm, with several sources suggesting his position was under review. However, as highlighted by Franco Nugnes in his report for Motorsport.com, the coordinator of Ferrari’s trackside group remains both a demanding and indispensable figure within the team. His role is considered solid, as are his undeniable technical skills. The main issue, however, lies in the coordination between the engineers in Maranello and those working at the circuit.

Ferrari: now it’s up to Loic Serra

The report also revealed an ongoing dynamic that is hindering the Scuderia’s progress. The car specification approved after simulations in Maranello, while capable of strong performance, can sometimes lead to excessive floor wear – reportedly the case in Singapore. As a result, the trackside engineers have been forced to apply increasingly extreme adjustments to find the right balance between performance and reliability. These choices led to the drivers having to rely heavily on lift and coast during the Marina Bay weekend.

It will now be the responsibility of technical director Loic Serra to restore harmony between the departments – ensuring the engineers performing simulations in Maranello and those fine-tuning the car on track can work seamlessly together. In the meantime, the team remains firmly under the leadership of Frédéric Vasseur, who will have to prove the full merit of his long-term plan by 2026.
