Leicester City transfer blow as ‘very low’ €7.5m option claim emerges

Leicester City will be expecting to offload Wout Faes this summer – and he could return to AS Monaco

Monaco want to renegotiate their purchase options for both Wout Faes and Simon Adingra, according to a report in France.
French outlet L’Equipe claim Monaco are still keen to sign the Leicester City defender – just not for the reported fee of €7.5million. By way of context Sunderland are due €17m for Adingra.
The report claims the Ligue 1 outfit are ‘tempted’ to keep both and that their contributions ‘pleased the Monaco management’.
However, it is claimed they are not inclined to do so at any cost and with falling TV rights and uncertainty over which European competition they will be playing in next season, it is said the likelihood of Monaco paying the full option for Faes is ‘very low’.
L’Equipe suggest they could be interested in another loan deal for Faes, who has one year left on his City contract, or by potentially paying a lower transfer fee.
Faes joined the Foxes from Reims in 2022 for a reported £15m, since when he has been promoted to the Premier League once – but relegated from it twice.
He has made 135 appearances for City but fell out of favour with Marti Cifuentes and was loaned to Monaco in January. He played 14 league games for them, starting 13 and also played every minute of two Champions League matches against Paris Saint-Germain.
However, his final appearance came in a 5-4 defeat to Strasbourg, a game in which they were 4-1 up but shipped four goals in half an hour and a performance that earned the Belgian a 3/10 from L’Equipe from a game in which he was ‘outmatched’ by Julio Enciso.
Whatever happens there seems zero prospect of the 28-year-old playing for City in League One, with uncertainty surrounding pretty much all of their players – and indeed all four centre backs.
