During the win over the Nashville Predators, Martin St. Louis praised Jayden Struble’s play, highlighting his composure and strong chemistry with Lane Hutson.

But Struble really impressed his coach Thursday night during his first start.

“We don’t see Stroobs as a 7th defenseman, but we can only play six. He’s strong with the puck defensively, and he has a calmness when he plays with Lane.”

Jayden Struble earns Martin St. Louis’s trust within the Montreal Canadiens

I really think that Struble’s presence gives St. Louis more flexibility to compose his pairings on the blue line.

We all agree that this is an important aspect in the current context.

It should also be recalled that the 2019 second-round pick had already shown great chemistry with Lane Hutson last year with the Canadiens.

The duo seems to be regaining form this year.

His stability as well as his simple and solid play make him a credible option to remain in the defensive rotation.

I really think he plays like a guy who wants to stay in the NHL.

Struble signed a new two-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens, with an average annual value of $1.4125 million.

I really think it’s a very reasonable contract for both parties.

In my opinion, he is proving that he deserves his place in Montreal for the long term.
