Alert issued as police report armed person in home in Waverley

The RCMP says a suspect is in custody after an incident in Waverley prompted an emergency alert.

The alert, issued around 8:30 a.m., said police were on the scene of a person with a firearm inside a home on Waverley Road, with roads closed in the area and people living nearby asked to stay inside.

A follow-up alert about 30 minutes later said police had taken a suspect into custody and there was no longer a risk to the public.

Police have not offered any further detail on the incident.
