The Jefferson City Police Department collected 72 pounds of prescription drugs on Saturday as a part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

According to a news release, the annual event is in partnership with the national Drug Enforcement Administration.

“The event provided community members with a safe and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications,” the Police Department said in the news release.

All medications the department collected will be turned over to the DEA for proper destruction, according to the release.
